16th September 2011 - WA Police Firearms Branch conducting random storage inspections
·    There has been much rumour and innuendo regarding the recent spate of safe inspections by the WA Police so hopefully this will clear the air somewhat.

·    For a start the guidelines for safe storage of firearms are part of the WA Firearms Regulations 1974 of which a copy can be downloaded here. Section "11A. Storage security requirements" covers how and what should be stored and towards the end in "Schedule 4" discusses the actual storage facility itself.

·    The second issue is the rights of the WA Police to enter your home to inspect your storage facility. This is covered by the Firearms Act 1973. It contains the following extract:

Section 23 (9) "A person who, — (e) being responsible for the storage of any firearm or ammunition, refuses to permit a member of the Police Force to inspect the storage facilities provided, at a reasonable time after such an inspection is requested in writing by the member of the Police Force, commits an offence."

·    The Firearms Act 1973 can be downloaded from here.

·    For any further storage questions please don't hesitate to contact me via email.

Fly shoot held on 27th April 2009 - Photos courtesy of Kevin Speer:

In case you wondering what this shoot is all about, a target is set up in a distance of 400 m and has the shape of a fly (hence the name).
Incredibly enough, shooters do hit this target!
Third place for Dave Tarplet
Second place for Sam Bonavita
and First place for Mark Hammersly, who hit the fly not only once, but twice (!)

Congratulations to everybody involved into this event and the three winners.
And here some pictures:
